Victim makes teen car prowler own up

An honorable way of handling the situation

Eliza Webb was startled to find a cell phone next to her burgled car at her West Seattle home, and surmised it might belong to the burglar. It did. And Webb, along with husband Blake, set out to make things right. [Dean Rutz, The Seattle Times.]

My formula, AA=RR, was carried out perfectly by Eliza and Blake Webb, the couple who thoughtfully and responsibly handled the adolescents that ransacked Eliza’s car last month in their neighborhood. [“Victim makes teen car prowlers own up to spree,” page one, July 8.]

Accountability + (an) Apology = (the possibility of) Repairing and Restoring a relationship. AA=RR.

No need for police involvement, vindictiveness or humiliation. Simply requiring the straightforward admitting of the truth and a genuine apology was what worked in this situation. What a just and honorable way to engage with one another in our community and the world at large.
