Feds target barred owls in Pacific Northwest

All animals should be protected

I am writing about the federal plan to kill 3,603 barred owls in an effort to save the spotted owl. [“Feds advance plan to kill barred owls in Northwest,” NW Wednesday, July 24.]

I am against this plan, which will kill off a sizable percentage of a viable species in an effort to save one of questionable viability. Saving the spotted-owl habitat as a means of saving old-growth forest is a plan I support, but it would be better if old-growth forest could be saved because of its own value.

I feel that this planet and the ecological systems that support life are being torn apart by mining, drilling, industrial pollution and the list goes on. So, in effect, all wildlife is endangered, and I think that we should protect all species, even if they are present in good numbers.
