The preamble to the U.S. Constitution

Keep those goals in mind

So enamored of the anti-monarchical sentiments in the Declaration of Independence that most Americans do not realize it is not part of the U.S. Constitution.

This declaration was a call to arms against the British, a war which the colonists won a long time ago.

Regrettably, we now disregard the preamble to the U.S. Constitution that identifies the aims the Founding Fathers had in writing the Constitution:

“We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquillity, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

These are not partisan aims, but goals that we, including all our elected representatives, ought to keep in mind in making our political, social, economic, environmental and educational choices.
