Immigration reform: follow the same laws

Deportation of spouse is a separate issue

The overlooked point in the excellent guest column by Pramila Jayapal and Leeann Hall is written as: “And while the majority of people deported are men, it is the women who must pick up the pieces” [“Why immigration is a major issue for women,” Opinion, Nov. 17].

Perhaps this is why the GOP is reluctant to engage on extensive “immigrant” reform? Allowing illegal immigrants a free pass to the front of the immigration line is crazy.

This article was really about how to allow non-citizens who are here legally awaiting citizenship to obtain legal employment. It may seem cold, but a hardship due to an illegal-immigrant spouse being deported has nothing to do with the issue of allowing a massive influx of non-citizens into the legal workforce.
