The decision by the taxi committee of the Seattle City Council to restrict the number of uberX and other ridesharing providers makes little sense [“Seattle City Council members approve driver cap on rideshare services,” The Today File, Feb. 27].
Beside promoting free enterprise, ridesharing contributes to public safety by reducing drunken driving, safeguarding women and children with traceable car services, while buttressing publicly funded transportation initiatives intended to reduce traffic congestion.
All these aspects are hallmarks of successful governance.
Mayor Ed Murray should work to ensure that the rideshare car services remain an affordable option for citizens of Seattle.
Taxi companies, with their poor service and embedded political cronies, can take a hike.
