KOMO helicopter crash proves mechanical unreliability

Seattle firefighters put water on a news helicopter that crashed in front of KOMO building on Broad Street, Tuesday.

When we were in Kona, Hawaii several years ago there were two helicopter crashes the same day with fatalities [“Strange noise, then disaster,” page one, March 19].

The cause was reported the next day; one lost a tail rotor and the other had a hydraulic line failure. Helicopters are inherently unreliable due to lack of redundancy in the flight-control systems. I would not fly in one.
