The Seattle Times editorial reflects the same naivete the Obama administration has in calculating Russian President Vladimir Putin’s tactical and strategic interests in Ukraine [“All eyes on May 25 presidential election in Ukraine,” Opinion, April 21].
I guarantee “all eyes” are not on this election. And short of electing a pro-Russian leader (not very likely), it will make little difference to Putin’s long-term goal of reintegrating Russian-speaking former regions into his sphere of influence — by force if necessary. Some of those pro Russian “thugs” in Eastern Ukraine have been positively identified as Russian military operatives, the same ones in the Crimea.
The Russian reset, the Muslim reset, the Iranian reset, the Syrian reset, the China reset, the North Korean reset, are all Obama fantasies and point to serious miscalculations and threaten Americans and American interests in a very dangerous world.
The last time the world faced this indifference and miscalculation toward tyrants, despots and dictators by the U.S. and Western allies, global war resulted in 1941.
