Massage therapist rapes: No one deserves rape

I am an attorney who represents immigrant victims of violence — some of the most marginalized and vulnerable members of our society. So it was a relief to read that Danford Grant will be headed to prison for his atrocious crimes [“Attorney Danford Grant pleads guilty to 5 counts of rape,” Local News, May 7].

My reaction was tempered, however, by the tone-deaf comments King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg made about the victims: “We believe you. Even somebody who works in a massage parlor can be raped,” Satterberg said.

Such condescending statements are inappropriate and anachronistic, especially coming from one of our top law-enforcement officials. Rape is something that can occur to anyone, and no one deserves it. Period.
