Another step in fixing our broken health-care system was taken when the Everett Clinic began listing the “retail prices” for the basic procedures [“Everett Clinic starts listing some ‘retail’ prices online,” Local News, May 22].
Hospital procedure pricing lists would help create an open marketplace within the health-services industry, which would greatly benefit patients. The more patients who can shop for high-quality, low-cost services, the more hospitals and insurance companies would compete with each other for sales. This would lower overall hospital costs for patients. It would also force hospitals to work faster and more efficiently, getting more paying customers in and out the door.
A free marketplace is something that has been missing from the health-care industry.
