VA scandal: The root to the problem is a decade in the making

Let’s put blame where blame is due. The problems with the Veterans Affairs hospitals have been going on for over a decade [“Why the VA delays?” Nation & World, May 30].

In the recent past, the U. S. has engaged in two wars. Funding for the VA hospitals was not increased despite the obvious fact that the wars would lead to an increased need. The Republicans have consistently prevented the Democrats from raising the VA budget. In fact Paul Ryan recently attempted to cut its budget.

So whom is to blame here, the man in charge or the men and women who created the problem in the first place and prevented the cure?

Ted Coskey, Seattle
