I’m saddened by the tone of columnist Sarah Stuteville’s reference to the recent tragic incidents of gun violence in our country [“Visiting students taken aback by easy access to guns in U.S.,” Local News, June 26].
To those students from India who reportedly were “afraid of getting shot in Los Angeles, It would have been fair to open a comparative discussion about the crime rate in India.
The occupants of this globe have changed to the worse everywhere, not just in the U.S.
For the record, for one 36-hour period in June in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh there were five women raped in India. Two of the women were raped and hanged from a tree.
If one is afraid to get off the airplane in Los Angeles for the fear of guns, there are far more of us afraid to visit some of the other troubled countries for other violence.
