As a proud local Republican who volunteers with Washington Trails and Puget Soundkeeper, I am pleased that The Seattle Times has once again endorsed U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert, R-Auburn [“Re-elect Dave Reichert in 8th Congressional District,” Opinion, July 15].
Reichert continues his strong leadership in environmental policy. Over his time in office he has been a quite effective representative for us, but among his numerous strengths for our benefit have been his efforts to safeguard our uniquely beautiful environment.
Reichert is a leading Republican in the U.S. House when it comes to the environment. He co-chairs the Land Conservation Caucus and the National Parks Caucus, and is a recipient of the Greenest Republican in Congress award. Reichert introduced H.R. 608, a bill that would protect the Alpine Lakes Wilderness as well as label the Pratt and Middle Fork Snoqualmie rivers as “wild” and “scenic;” H.R. 3307, which would extent tax incentives for the production of renewable energy; and H.R. 4226, a bipartisan package of tax incentives that encourages energy efficiency.
Reichert stands on his values and is an honorable representative for the 8th District and all of Washington state. The Seattle Times was correct in praising Reichert’s solid agenda in their endorsement of his 2014 re-election campaign.
