Seattle Times letters to the editor

Israel is fighting for its life

The Middle East conflict isn’t simplistically black and white, as your reader from Bellingham suggests in “Cut Israel off” [Northwest Voices, July 23].

The letter presents this as a one-sided conflict implying Israel is taking on Hamas for no apparent reason. I have to ask if the reader is aware of the facts of this conflict?

Hamas terrorists initiated the conflict with the kidnapping execution of three Israeli teenagers followed by firing thousands of missiles at Israeli communities causing much of the country to live in bomb shelters. If America were under attack from New York to Denver 24/7 would we use restraint and not defend ourselves? I think not.

Israel is not engaged in this conflict over a piece of real estate in the Middle East; they are fighting for their lives.
