Israel-Palestinian conflict: How would you feel if Hamas were in your backyard?

Letter writer Jayne Riggs ignores the stated objective of Hamas to destroy Israel as its national policy [“Stop Israel’s support,” Northwest Voices, Aug. 2].

The checkpoints were made necessary to stop the suicide bombers made necessary following the Second Palestinian Intifada. The tunnels were dug to allow infiltration of  kidnappers and bomb planters.  The 150 children died because Hamas used them as human shields to hide their rockets used to force Israeli citizens to live in bomb shelters.  What is Israel supposed to do, just die in submission without reaction to Hamas’ genocide?

Riggs lives in Bellevue. If a Hamas community located in Kirkland were launching missiles and hiding the launch sites at John Muir Elementary, digging tunnels under Bellevue Way, what would she suggest the Bellevue Police Department and Gov. Jay Inslee  do? Would she disagree that the U.S. government should not support Bellevue and the state of Washington in eradication efforts to remove the terrorists threats? The rhetorical question needs no answer.
