Individuals and loved ones need to make end-of-life decisions

Thankfully, local end-of-life focus groups are currently and effectively making repairs to the ills of our broken health-care system [“Ending live on your terms,” Opinion, Sept. 24]. Yes, a 15-minute end-of-life talk with a doctor can spell out mechanical options at end of life. But a small group of caring individuals, gathered in a living room with a trained leader, can be the support we need to make the life affirming decisions necessary to avoid a bad death.

These heartfelt decisions are a gift to the individual making them and to their loved ones. With a little planning along the way we can all aim for a better death, a death that requires intellectually guided introspection and loving heartwork.
