Gay marriage: The church is being hypocritical

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black [“When ‘I do’ means you’re done in the Catholic Church,” Opinion, Sept. 24]. The Roman Catholic Church has a lot to answer for going back throughout history and in recent times.

For 30 years, two men lived together and shared their lives together. No one raised any questions. Then the word “married” was mentioned and 30 years were obliterated. I wonder what Jesus would have said? Jesus lived with a bunch of men and had a woman trailing along. God, did not get involved.

Christians talk about God, but when it comes to God’s Commandments, we the people and the church keep mum about adultery. We even vote to have adulterers returned to office. Their “marriage ” was for protection of the laws of the land, about beneficiaries, health-care proxies and hospital visitation rights.

When are we going to truly believe that this is the land of the free?
