Seattle housing: An uncertain situation created for seniors

No longer is it only the extremely indigent citizens of our municipality who are being pushed to society’s margins and threatened with the daunting prospect of homelessness [“Longtime tenants get the boot from upgrades, soaring rents,” Local News, Sept. 29].

The sale of the Panorama House has precipitated an unexpected crisis for the many elderly residents of that property. These are good people who have been dedicated to their families and professions. They had every reason to expect that they could live out their latter days in peace and security.

Searching for and moving to a new residence is stressful for anyone but for the elders who must now confront that worrisome reality the situation is surely overwhelming. It is a shameful situation that cries out for swift and serious attention on the part of this city’s elected officials.
