Facing another set of confusing judicial elections, I much appreciated The Seattle Times editorial recognizing votingforjudges.org — the website that disseminates objective, accurate and comprehensive information about judicial candidates [“Votingforjudges.org makes it easier to size up judicial candidates,” Opinion, Oct. 15]. More people should know about this site.
As a matter of human interest, it would also be useful for the public to know more about the people who started and run votingforjudges.org. They are tireless volunteer professionals whose work has been recognized by national professional organizations. The site is funded on a shoestring budget, some of the funds coming from personal resources of the founders.
That budget is a matter of concern. Washington’s decisions to elect judges only makes sense if voters have access to reliable information about candidates. Votingforjudges.org should have the full support of professional organizations and other donors. Given the substantial sums spent on judicial campaigns, devoting a small amount to providing objective, accurate and comprehensive information to voters seems of obvious value.
