School shootings: Adults need to be more involved in youths’ lives

Thank you Sheer Yedidia for your letter [“Can you hear the yelling?” Northwest Voices, Nov. 16].

Yes, as adults we should be the first ones teaching our children and listening to what they are saying. We should be teaching our children right from wrong, not only by listening to them and being aware of their concerns, but by setting good examples and being their mentors on how to be good law-abiding citizens. Adults need to be more involved in our children’s daily activities and like you said we should be listening to our youths.

Today is a totally different world than when today’s adults were your age. This is due to all of today’s technology and devices youths use daily. A majority of adults don’t understand this new technology world that youths today quickly pick up and start using.

Adults need to learn some of this new technology that would allow us to see and be aware of the daily activities of our youth.

Keep up the good work in educating adults about your concerns about what youths go through. This is the first time I have seen in any of the local papers a logical and personal concern of a youth regarding a tragedy that our youths see and hear about in today’s world. I hope more youths will start making adults listen to them about today’s world and what it is like for them.
