Thanksgiving: Mourning lost traditions

I’m starting to think the Pilgrims aren’t the only ones who are no longer around. Thanksgiving itself seems to be approaching extinction.

With Thanksgiving still more than a week away, I went to three stores trying to find Thanksgiving napkins and plates for my holiday table. One clerk, after looking rather perplexed, said, “If we had any they would be in the tiny card section between Christmas and Hanukkah.” No one had any.

Soon, we might need to sit down with our kids like our ancestors and pass down disappearing traditions in the form of telling them stories about Thanksgiving.
