Pac-12 Confidential

Bud Withers offers an inside look at the Pac-12 Conference and the national college scene.

Pretty much a ho-hum college football Saturday . . .

After the big Colorado upset of Utah Friday that put UCLA in the Pac-12 title game, it’s been decidedly a yawner of a Saturday in college football, although the Michigan-Ohio State game, won by the Wolverines, 40-34, was one of the best in that storied series.

Alabama, No. 2 in the BCS behind LSU, is moving easily toward a victory at Auburn, which will keep the Tide second to LSU in the BCS. Oregon is swamping Oregon State by a similar score late in the game, 49-21, so the Ducks wrap up the host berth in the Pac-12 title game next week.

Elsewhere, Virginia Tech rocked Virginia, 38-0, in a game for the winner to face off against Clemson in the ACC title game. Oklahoma eased in over Iowa State, Wisconsin buried Penn State to kill the Nittany Lions’ bid to play for the Big Ten championship (the Badgers get that, opposite Michigan State), Georgia beat Georgia Tech 31-17 (thus losing no shine as it prepares for the SEC title game against LSU).

Thanksgiving weekend has often been one with multiple surprises, but not this one. Maybe next week . . .
