‘Zona scrambles the Pac-12 South and everybody’s expectations

Arizona, down 28-13 in the third quarter, fought back to upset USC Saturday in a wild 39-36 finish that makes a mess of the Pac-12 South.

And oh by the way, it wipes the luster from the long-anticipated Oregon-USC game next week in Los Angeles and ends the Trojans’ chance of being national champions. Now Troy is reduced to being a spoiler of the Ducks’ chances, though USC is still very much in the running for the Pac-12 title.

Wild afternoon in the desert, as UCLA upset Arizona State, 45-43. So there were 163 points scored in Tempe and Tucson.

Now the standings in the Pac-12 South look like this:

USC 4-2

Arizona State 3-2

UCLA 3-2

Arizona 2-3

The Trojans and UCLA both hold their fate in their hands. USC has a hellish month of November coming up, with Oregon, Arizona State, UCLA and Notre Dame.

Can’t fault USC receiver Marqise Lee for the loss. He had a record-setting day, catching 16 balls for a Pac-12 standard 345 yards. Arizona’s Austin Hill wasn’t bad, either, with 10 catches for 259 yards.
