Pac-12 bowl picks, No. 1: New Mexico

If it seems early for bowl games to be kicking off, well, it is. Consider that Saturday’s New Mexico Bowl comes a mere 13 days after the BCS bowl selections, which set in motion all the rest of the games.

This one has Arizona (7-5) against Nevada (7-5), with ‘Zona up to a 9.5-point favorite. Interesting that these two schools in bordering states haven’t met since 1941.

It pits Arizona’s wildfire offense, led by Ka’Deem Carey’s 1,757 yards rushing, against Nevada, with Stefphon Jefferson, who was second in the nation to Carey in yards per game rushing, totalling 1,703. Jefferson is a workhorse who led the FBS with 341 carries.

Nevada is 86th in total defense, Arizona 116th. I won’t offer much trenchant analysis, other than to say I see the Wolf Pack hanging around and making it interesting. Arizona 37, Nevada 30.
