Washington (plus 5.5) vs. Boise State — A lot of bowl games are determined on which team comes more focused, so let’s look at that aspect of the Vegas Bowl Saturday between Washington and Boise State.
The Huskies, chastened by the fourth-quarter comeback that gave WSU a shocking overtime victory, have seemed to be businesslike about a chance for redemption, while there’s the possibility that Boise State, playing in the same bowl for the third straight year, might be a tad blasé about it. I buy the first half of that equation, but not the second. Chris Petersen always seems to have his team ready to play against a foe from a superior league, and that would be where I’d land on that issue — that the motivation will be about even.
Neither team’s offense has been exactly gonzo, so this ought not to be a shootout kind of game. Boise State has a plus-18 turnover margin, and if the Broncos build on that, it could be a hard day for Washington. But that’s the kind of stat that doesn’t necessary show up on a one-time basis. Here’s a vote for the Huskies to go into the off-season on a positive note. Washington 27, Boise State 21.
