Four Washington teams get NCAA academic-recognition awards

Props to four athletic teams at the University of Washington, which have been named recipients of the NCAA’s Public Recognition Awards for finishing in the top 10 percent of their sports in the latest multi-year Academic Progress Rate figures through the 2011-12 school year. The four are women’s tennis, gymnastics and soccer and men’s tennis.

Stanford dominated the Pac-12 awards with nine sports represented, and significantly, it was the only football program in the league to make it, but Washington was second among conference schools. Full APR numbers are due for release next Tuesday.

Sports recognized:

Stanford — Baseball, football, men’s tennis, men’s outdoor track, wrestling, women’s basketball, women’s cross country, women’s golf, women’s volleyball.

Washington — Men’s tennis, women’s tennis, women’s soccer, women’s gymnastics.

California — Men’s tennis, women’s tennis, women’s gymnastics.

  Arizona State — Baseball, women’s tennis.

  Oregon — Women’s indoor track.

Arizona — Women’s gymnastics.

UCLA — Women’s golf.

Utah — Women’s gymnastics.
