Ducks, Georgetown to play hoops in South Korea

This hasn’t gotten a lot of play in these parts, but Oregon and Georgetown are opening the college basketball season Nov. 8 in a novel locale — South Korea. The Ducks and Hoyas will play at a U.S. Army base there, Camp Humphreys, in the second iteration of the Armed Forces Classic, an ESPN initiative during Veterans Week.

Last year, Connecticut beat Michigan State at a C-5 transport airplane hangar at Ramstein Air Base in Germany.

The game will dovetail nicely with the Pac-12’s announced intention of increasing its presence in Asia. Commissioner Larry Scott has talked about the possibility of basketball teams showcasing the league with a conference game or two in China.
