The Pac-12 announced Monday the weekly football player-of-the-week awards: Travis Wilson of Utah the offensive choice; Steven Nelson, Oregon State cornerback, as the top defender; and USC punter Kris Albarado as the special-teams pick.
That’s how I voted it as well. Media are selecting the players this year for the first time.
Wilson threw for 24 completions in 35 tries for 273 yards and no interceptions as Utah trumped BYU. Nelson had the deciding pick-six against San Diego State, and Albarado pinned Utah State inside its 20 on five of seven punts, including twice inside the 5-yard line.
There were good choices from Washington and Washington State, but philosophically, I’ll usually favor the player who had the good game against harder competition versus the one who excelled against Idaho State or Idaho, the teams the Huskies and Cougars played.
