Stanford’s Gardner out for the year

Stanford football coach David Shaw announced Tuesday on the weekly teleconference call that standout defensive end Ben Gardner, one of the team’s captains, will miss the rest of the season, including a bowl game, with a left pectoral injury. He was hurt in the Oregon State game last week. Gardner has played through a shoulder problem much of the season.

Shaw indicated that Henry Anderson, out since the Army game in September with a knee problem, could return against Oregon Nov. 7. That will be decided in practices this weekend.
