Arizona State quarterback Taylor Kelly, USC cornerback Josh Shaw and UCLA’s Jayron Brown are Pac-12 football players of the week. Kelly accounted for seven touchdowns — five passing and two rushing — in ASU’s big victory over WSU, while Shaw had eight tackles and an interception in USC’s victory at Oregon State, and Brown had a couple of tackles on kick coverage, forcing and recovering a fumble as the Bruins eased past Colorado.
My media vote went the other way on two counts. On offense, I went with USC back Javorius Allen, who had three rushing touchdowns and 133 yards on 16 carries at Oregon State — my reasoning that, I didn’t think WSU offered any particular resistance against Kelly. And for the special-teams award, I went with ASU’s Zane Gonzalez, mostly because his two field goals of 37 and 36 yards give him 13 straight.
