Washington State’s football opener Thursday night with Rutgers at CenturyLink Field might not be televised to Dish subscribers because of an apparent dispute between the carrier and Fox Sports 1, the Fox outlet that’s airing the game.
Also at risk is Friday night’s game between Colorado and Colorado State.
We have few details on the status of the talks, whether a settlement is likely before the WSU-Rutgers game, etc. We’ll have more on the situation Monday. But here’s a link on the Dish website giving its side of the story.
Fox Sports 1 is scheduled to carry six Pac-12 games this year, three of them league games. The first of those is Sept. 25 — UCLA at Arizona State — and that’s a biggie. So if this doesn’t get resolved pretty soon, expect some major pressure from the league.
The six games to air on Fox Sports 1:
Rutgers-WSU, Thursday night
Colorado-CSU, Friday night
Arizona-UTSA, Sept. 4
UCLA-Arizona State, Sept. 25
Utah-Oregon State Oct. 16
Oregon-Cal Oct. 24
So let me get this straight: The Pac-12 has been in a long dispute with DirecTV, which has refused to carry Pac-12 Networks at the price the league has sold to other carriers. And because of it, the league two years ago urged Pac-12 fans to seek the network on other carriers — switch away from DirecTV, in other words. And now one of those other carriers is poised not to air some Pac-12 games?
