‘Zona, and the Pac-12, get respect from the committee

Arizona, despite its 51-13 blowout loss Friday night in the Pac-12 title game against Oregon, dropped only three spots from No. 7 to 10th, and will play Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl. That’s a nice nod to the 10-3 season the Wildcats had, and it’s also a $4 million boon to the conference atop the $6 million Oregon realizes for making the first playoff as the No. 2 seed. (Essentially, the finances are similar to getting two teams in the old BCS, something that usually proved problematic for the Pac-12.)

The slotting of Arizona to the Fiesta leaves the Pac-12 in position to have all its bowl-eligible teams fill its contracted bowls, so nobody has to go looking for a post-season spot with a bowl unaffiliated with the conference.
