Signing day: 22 in fold at WSU at noon with some attrition

As of noon Wednesday, Washington State had announced the names of 22 football prospects for its 2015 class on national letter-of-intent day.

The Cougars, who had some setbacks late in the process that dropped their national ranking from No. 23 last week to the 30s, got a bonus Wednesday when T.J. Fehoko, a defensive end prospect from Cottonwood High in Murray, Utah, announced he was selecting WSU over Nevada and North Carolina State. He was credited with 77 career sacks, including 34 in one season.

WSU’s list includes Pasco’s Deion Singleton, who signed a year ago but didn’t qualify academically and is now eligible, plus five junior college recruits and Clemson wide receiver transfer Kyrin Priester.

Much of the attrition down the stretch is being attributed to a possible move – as yet unconfirmed – of WSU receivers coach Dennis Simmons to Oklahoma. Simmons recruited the Los Angeles area for WSU with success in recent years.

A WSU receiving target, Dahu Green of Oklahoma City, opted out of a commitment and signed with Oklahoma. Deontay Burnett of Gardena, Calif., another receiver committed to WSU, stayed with the Cougars after a visit to Michigan but then was reported to be taking an offer from USC to walk on with the promise of a scholarship later.

Another would-be Cougar, four-star linebacker recruit Kyahva Tezino, pulled out of that commitment recently and signed with San Diego State.
