Good Morning, Happy Friday:
The latest KING 5/SurveyUSA poll shows Democrat Suzan DelBene moving up in polling data in the 1st Congressional District race, likely as a result of $1 million worth of ads. Here are the latest poll results. The poll shows DelBene gaining ground in recent weeks and Democrat Darcy Burner losing her lead. The poll of 563 actual and likely voters was conducted Tuesday and Wednesday, and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.2 percent.
The Times’ Jonathan Martin reported Thursday night that DelBene has just written her campaign another hefty check.
Former state Rep. Laura Ruderman landed in Politico this week, but it was probably not the kind of national media attention she might have hoped for. Ruderman and her mom, who has donated considerable sums to pay for ads against two rivals in the hotly contested race in the 1st Congressional District, are mentioned prominently in a piece about helicopter moms, dads and other relatives who get, um, enthused about campaigns. “Dawn of the Mommy and Daddy PACS,’‘ proclaimed Politico. Huffington Post was also intrigued, running a piece called, “Helicopter Parenting, Meet Political Campaigning.”
In Wednesday’s CityClub-sponsored debate with 1st Congressional District candidates, the topic of Ruderman’s mom and her political activism came up briefly, but did not dominate the discussion.
The Olympian’s Brad Shannon has an interesting piece on a candidate you have heard little about but who is actively campaigning for governor of the state, Shahram Hadian, a tea-party backed candidate. Hadian likely will impact the primary results in the head-to-head contest between Democrat Jay Inslee and Republican Rob McKenna, potentially shaving a few points off McKenna’s total.
