Inslee: Real race starts Wednesday

Jay Inslee greets supporters at Democratic Headquarters early in the evening on primary election night (Mark Harrison / The Seattle Times).

Jay Inslee looked toward November in a brief primary night speech at his campaign headquarters.

Speaking to reporters before the results were announced, the Democratic gubernatorial candidate said he feels he has momentum in the campaign.

“The real race starts tomorrow,” the former congressman said.

As if to emphasize his point, he noted that “the decision’s going to be in November.”

Inslee was leading Attorney General Rob McKenna in early returns Tuesday in their race to replace Gov. Christine Gregoire.

Sterling Clifford, a campaign spokesman, said Inslee would not address reporters after results are announced.
