Republican business consultant James Watkins of Redmond appeared likely to advance to the general election in the race to replace retiring State Auditor Brian Sonntag, but early returns were too close to name his Democratic challenger.
State Rep. Troy Kelley, D-Tacoma, was leading state Sen. Craig Pridemore, D-Vancouver, and state Rep. Mark Miloscia, D-Federal Way.
Watkins had 45 percent of the votes in early returns, while Kelley had 24 percent. Pridemore and Miloscia had 20 percent and nearly 10 percent respectively.
