Washington ranks 9th in the nation for volunteerism with nearly 2 million residents serving 254 million total hours in 2012, according to the Volunteering and Civic Life in America 2013 report.
According to the report, 34.5 percent of the state’s residents ages 16 years and older volunteer. Utah topped the rankings with 43.8 percent of its residents volunteering.
Seattle ranked fourth among the 51 largest metro areas, and first in the young adult category with 32.6 percent of young adults ages 16 to 24 volunteering, according to a news release by the Washington state Office of Financial Management.
The annual report is put together by Corporation for National and Community Service in partnership with the National Council on Citizenship, the U.S. Census Bureau and the Bureau for Labor Statistics.
