After a year in office, Democratic Gov. Jay Inslee’s job approval rating stands at 45 percent in a new statewide poll.
The Elway Poll found 45 percent called Inslee’s performance “good” or “excellent” while 50 percent rated him “only fair” or “poor.”
Inslee’s ratings are up a bit from July 2013, when 40 percent of voters gave him a positive rating, according to Elway.
For comparison, at the one-year point in her first term as governor, Chris Gregoire was at 40 percent positive and 55 percent negative job approval in Elways’s poll. Gary Locke had a much better rating of 54 percent positive and 39 percent negative after his first year.
The poor economy has been a drag on governor approval ratings. Elway noted the last time a majority of voters gave a governor a positive rating was June 2008 — just before the Wall Street crash.
The poll of 408 registered voters was conducted Jan. 2-5 and has a plus or minus 5 percent margin of error.
