New state First Lady Trudi Inslee was walking with a cane Thursday after injuring her knee earlier this week, according to a spokeswoman.
The governor’s wife is expected to fully recover soon, said the spokeswoman, Jaime Smith.
The injury occurred while walking, Smith said. It forced the First Lady to attend Wednesday night’s inaugural ball in a wheelchair.
“You noticed Trudi was dancing on wheels last night,” Gov. Jay Inslee said in a news conference Thursday morning. “As we speak she’s in the capable hands of Dr. Holland who is going to use health care reform to fix her knee this morning. So that is going to get all taken care of.”
Dr. Holland is Dr. Lawrence E. Holland, a Seattle specialist who is the former team doctor for the Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Mariners.
Jay and Trudi Inslee met while attending Seattle’s Ingraham High School. They have been married for 40 years.
The First Lady, a former board member of NARAL Pro-Choice Washington, played an active role in her husband’s successful campaign last year.
Jay Inslee was sworn in Wednesday as Washington state’s 23rd governor.
