Lynn Shelton’s “Humpday” gets national release

Congratulations to Seattle filmmaker Lynn Shelton, whose comedy “Humpday” just got picked up for distribution after its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. Magnolia Pictures picked up for the film for an amount Variety reported as “mid-six figures,” and plans to put it in theaters in August following a video-on-demand release. The film, which stars Mark Duplass (“The Puffy Chair”) and Joshua Leonard (“The Blair Witch Project”), is about two straight buddies who film themselves having sex as an art project. Shelton, whose previous films are “We Go Way Back” and “My Effortless Brilliance,” is on a roll; she’s also nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for “My Effortless Brilliance.”
