Popcorn & Prejudice: A Movie Blog

Seattle Times writer Moira Macdonald muses on moviegoing. Email Moira: mmacdonald@seattletimes.com.

Speaking of documentaries

The gang at the Grand Illusion tell me that they’ll be presenting the Oscar-nominated doc “The Betrayal (Nerakhoon),” in late March. The film, directed by Ellen Kuras, is the story of a Laotian family who escaped to America after the Vietnam war.
Today, in the sort of weird double-feature that you get used to when you write about movies, I’m seeing a pair of documentaries: “Pray the Devil Back to Hell,” about a group of women who fought for peace in troubled Liberia, and “Every Little Step,” which is the history of the Broadway musical “A Chorus Line.” Strange bedfellows, no?
