“Sex and the City 2”: It’s on . . . sigh

Fond as I am of the very well-shod quartet of Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha, the news that another “Sex and the City” movie is on the way doesn’t entirely thrill. After six seasons of the TV show and one feature film, what more can be done with these characters — particularly now that three of the four are happily married off? Are there enough cute shoes in the world to draw these stories out for another two hours? Is poor Miranda going to have to break up with Steve AGAIN?
Don’t get me wrong; I love the way the series (and, to a lesser extent, the movie) emerged as a happy tribute to grown-up female friendship; I like a nice costume parade as much as anyone; and I think Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kim Cattrall and (especially) the wonderfully funny Kristin Davis deserve every career success. But, really, the movie seemed to bring down the curtain on the gang at the right moment, just before we all lost interest. What do you think?
