Amy vs. Isla

So, the other day a colleague wandered by Popcorn & Prejudice HQ (namely, a very messy desk accessorized with Diet Coke cans and a pink feather boa) and asked the question on many people’s minds: “Hey, is that Amy Adams in that Shopaholic movie?” No, it’s Isla Fisher, but it’s an easy mistake to make. I thought a primer might be useful.
Here’s Isla, in “Confessions of a Shopaholic” (opening Friday):

Isla (pronounced EYE-la) Fisher is a lovely strawberry blonde actress who is Scottish by heritage but grew up in Australia. She is 33 (and yes, looks younger) and is best known on the big screen for playing Mary Jane in “Scooby Doo,” a scene-stealing small role in “Wedding Crashers” as a very game bridesmaid, and a perky star turn as Ryan Reynolds’ love interest in “Definitely, Maybe.” “Shopaholic” marks her first lead role.
Here’s Amy (in “Enchanted”):

Amy Adams, 34, is a lovely strawberry blonde American actress, best known for her two Oscar nominations as a fast-talking yet wistful young Southern mother-to-be in “Junebug” (if you haven’t seen this movie, rent it — it’s terrific) and as the innocent Sister James in “Doubt.” She’s also an inspired screwball comedian and singer, as she demonstrated in the Disney hit “Enchanted” and last year’s little-seen (but irresistible) “Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day.”
So, when is some smart director going to cast the two of them as sisters in some bubbly comedy? I’d watch. Wouldn’t you?
