Coin tricks at the Oscars

Go rent “Man on Wire.” Seriously. It was perhaps my favorite film of last year, and it just won the documentary Oscar. Philippe Petit, the tightrope artist whose walk between the World Trade Towers is the subject of the film, accepted the award with perhaps the Oscar ceremony’s first ever magic trick — making a coin, given to him by Werner Herzog, disappear. He then balanced the Oscar on his chin. Did anyone consider letting him host?
