Some joy for the weekend: “Some Like It Hot” turns 50

Let’s head into the weekend on a happy note, shall we? Billy Wilder’s “Some Like It Hot” is one of movies that generates joy; its screwball plot, dippy performances and note-perfect closing line (no, I’ll leave you to discover that for yourself) make me ridiculously happy every time I watch it. The film turns 50 this year and that’s cause for celebration — and for a clip, featuring Marilyn Monroe (who, as always, seems naked even when she’s more-or-less fully clothed) singing “I Wanna Be Loved By You,” accompanied by an all-girl band featuring “Josephine” (Tony Curtis) and “Daphne” (Jack Lemmon). Lemmon’s lipsticked smirk, alone, makes my weekend; now it can make yours:
