Pixar goes “Up” and away — to Cannes

I don’t usually post trailers at Popcorn & Prejudice — there are plenty of places to find them elsewhere online, and in general I try to not go out of my way to watch them. (Why? Because it’s too easy to dismiss a movie based on a lame trailer, and I’d rather go into a screening with an open mind. Exceptions happen, of course, but that’s ideally how I try to work.) But Pixar’s “Up” is opening the Cannes Film Festival tomorrow (Wednesday, May 13), and there’s something about its trailer — and, in fact, just that enormous rainbow bouquet of balloons — that makes me very happy. (Maybe it’s the voice of the great Ed Asner, and the wonderfully blank grumpiness of the character’s face.) I keep wondering when the Pixar crew will break its streak of terrific films; maybe they never will. Enjoy.
