Popcorn & Prejudice: A Movie Blog

Stood in any SIFF lines lately?

I was in a few lines over the weekend at the Seattle International Film Festival, enjoying the pleasant weather. (Favorite SIFF film so far? “Dodsworth,” an utterly beguiling 1936 drama from William Wyler.) But the festival still has nearly three weeks to go, and we know some rain’s going to fall. Short of attending films exclusively at Pacific Place (where the queues are indoors), festivalgoers just might find themselves standing in the rain. Some films are worth it; some aren’t. A reader just asked me which SIFF films would be opening in theaters shortly after the festival, so he could save himself the trouble of waiting in line for movies that he can easily walk right into later in the summer. I wrote back to him, and thought any SIFF-goers might find the list useful, so here it is. Note that this list is in all likelihood incomplete (I compile this info myself, so have likely missed a few), and also that there can be benefits to seeing a movie during SIFF — for example, if the director or a cast member is present. See www.siff.net for information about special guests; otherwise, here’s what I know to be coming to theaters post-SIFF. If you have a question about a specific film I didn’t list, let me know and I’ll try to get an answer for you.
