AFI top ten: “Hangover,” “Sugar” on list

The top-ten lists are coming thick and fast (mine will be here Dec. 27; still have a few more movies I need to watch before making the final decision), and one of the more interesting ones comes today from the American Film Institute: “Coraline,” “The Hangover,” “The Hurt Locker,” “The Messenger,” “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ By Sapphire,” “A Serious Man,” “A Single Man,” “Sugar,” “Up,” and “Up in the Air.” Nice to see “Sugar,” a lovely baseball film from last spring that came and went with little fanfare, getting some attention, likewise “Coraline,” which got overshadowed by “Up” but was equally wonderful in its own dark way. Much as I enjoyed “The Hangover,” I’m a little mystified by its place on this list, but to each their own.
Meanwhile, the New York Film Critics Circle and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association both chose “The Hurt Locker” as their favorite, while the Washington D.C. critics chose “Up in the Air.” And what’s been your favorite this year?
