The Oscars: Jeff Bridges wins best actor

MIchelle Pfeiffer introduces Jeff Bridges, her co-star in “The Fabulous Baker Boys” (nominated for “Crazy Heart”); Vera Farmiga introduces George Clooney (“Up in the Air”); Julianne Moore introduces Colin Firth (“A Single Man”); Tim Robbins introduces Morgan Freeman, with whom he co-starred in “The Shawshank Redemption” (“Invictus”); and Colin Farrell introduces Jeremy Renner, with whom he co-starred in “S*W*A*T” (“The Hurt Locker”). These tributes, let it be noted, are all extremely nice, but coming at the three-hour mark feel just a bit mis-timed.
And Kate Winslet comes out and announces the winner . . . Bridges, finally winning on his fifth nomination (his first was back in 1971, so he’s been waiting a while). Big, big cheers. He reminisced about his late parents, thanking them for “turning me on to such a groovy profession” and noting that the award honors them as much as it honors him. Nice.
