A reader just wrote wondering why there was no actual presentation to Lauren Bacall a few minutes ago. Good question, and I would have loved to hear her give a speech too. But a couple of years ago, the Academy made the decision to give all honorary awards in a separate ceremony, to save time on Oscar night. So all Lauren gets tonight is a wave to the crowd. It’s a shame — I remember many honorary Oscar presentations being the emotional highlight of the night — but it seems to be the Academy’s new tradition to leave the honorary awards out.
