A moment with Emma Thompson

Today is the great Emma Thompson’s birthday, and I was going to post something from “Sense and Sensibility” in honor of the occasion (preferably that scene in which Elinor bursts into tears, and generally I do too, when Edward tells her that “my heart is, and always shall be, yours”) but then I found this clip instead, and it made me burst out into very un-Jane-Austen-like snorts of laughter that may have made my colleagues here question my sanity. Anyway, it’s from a guest appearance Thompson made on Ellen DeGeneres’ sitcom back in the 90s, and it’s perfection, particularly that closing “Mobile, Alabama.” Love it. You will too.
